[ID: An orange and blue cover featuring a man and a woman in front of a NYC skyline. The man wears a white shirt and a tie and the woman wears a red dress. The tagline says “Love will take you by surprise”. The book sits on a gray wooden floor surrounded by paper confetti, fake blue flowers, and a plate full of gluten free cakes shaped like baseballs with red seams.]

Thank you so to @authormegancousins for sending me an ARC of her debut book THE CURVEBALL, a closed-door, friends to lovers, workplace romance featuring a heroine with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) in exchange for an honest review. ⁣

Penelope is a baseball-loving producer recovering from grief and dealing with a toxic workplace. When Jake, her father’s favorite pitcher, becomes the new host on Penelope’s show AND her next-door neighbor, sparks start to fly between them. Can they continue to work together without getting involved? Or will a little risk pay off in the end?⁣

It was immensely satisfying to see a chronically ill heroine get the love and support she deserves in this book. (That’s the kind of thing that makes my heart grow three sizes.) Jake and Penelope are a super sweet couple that I could see working in real life. Despite this being a workplace romance, I didn’t feel like the power dynamic was an issue between them. (Although in real life HR would have a few problems with it…)⁣

THE CURVEBALL is filled with love for good food and good baseball. At times, I wished there was a bit more plot or conflict and the ending felt rather drawn out, but it was a peaceful and low-key read. I recommend it for those of you looking for a closed door romance where the heroine is fully cherished and respected! ⁣

P.S. These perfect baseball cakes are by @muchadobakingco! ⚾️⁣
